Music-Voice, Minor
The Music-Voice minor is designed to support students who enjoy singing and to provide a competitive edge in the form of a credential for those interested in working with vocal music professionally or as volunteers. The flexible minor allows the student to tailor their interest towards developing skills in performance, conducting, and vocal and choral methods.
The minor also allows students majoring in education (elementary, middle-level, secondary, etc.) an opportunity to stack credentials, providing a competitive edge for supplemental teaching opportunities in their local districts.

PO1: Vocal Performance and Musicianship: Students will demonstrate healthy, expressive, and stylistically appropriate vocal technique through performance, applying knowledge of tone production, and musical interpretation. (UO1, UO5, UO6)

PO2: Vocal Pedagogy and Instructional Design: Students will apply foundational pedagogical principles in voice teaching, demonstrating the ability to analyze vocal development, identify technical challenges, and design appropriate exercises and teaching strategies for diverse learners. (UO2, UO5, UO7)

PO3: Music Leadership: Students will apply conducting skills and/or rehearsal techniques to lead small vocal ensembles or classroom singing experiences effectively, demonstrating communication, gesture, and score preparation skills. (UO1, UO2, UO5)

PO4: Cultural, Linguistic, and Historical Awareness: Students will demonstrate understanding of vocal literature from diverse cultures, languages, and historical periods, integrating inclusive repertoire and culturally responsive practices in performance and teaching. (UO6, UO8, UO9)

GPA REQUIREMENT
Minor GPA: 2.00 or higher
MINOR REQUIREMENTS
- Students must complete at least 9 credit hours of MUSI in their minor from SRU.
- Students must complete at least 6 credit hours in their minor from SRU.
- A minimum of 6 credit hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above).
- A minor shall be no fewer than 18 credits.
- Students must earn a grade of "C" or higher in all coursework.
