Slippery Rock University

Cultural Literacy and Community Building

This thread identifies practices that promote cultural literacy and community building. Some courses will explore ways that institutional support for culture and creativity promote community strength. Other courses will make connections between the marginalization of communities and negative social outcomes or introduce students to the impact that external forces such as climate change or food insecurity have on communities and populations.

Thread Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to explain practices that promote cultural literacy and community building. (UG 02)
  • Students will engage in integrative learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum, making simple connections among ideas and experiences to synthesizing and transferring learning to new, complex situations within and beyond the campus. (UG 05)
  • Students will engage in applied learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum, making simple connections among ideas and experiences to synthesizing and transferring learning to new, complex situations within and beyond the campus. (UG 02)
