Slippery Rock University

Citizenship and Social Problems

This thread considers the complex needs and demands of different societies. Students will evaluate the effectiveness of policies at remedying social problems, and to see the connections between policies that prioritize multicultural inclusion and the existence of a healthy civil society. Some courses will connect past policies and practices to the ongoing effects of racism, homophobia, misogyny, classism, and/or other inequalities in contemporary society.

Thread Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to analyze the complex needs and demands of disparate societies. (UG 02)
  • Students will engage in integrative learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum, making simple connections among ideas and experiences to synthesizing and transferring learning to new, complex situations within and beyond the campus. (UG 05)
  • Students will engage in applied learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum, making simple connections among ideas and experiences to synthesizing and transferring learning to new, complex situations within and beyond the campus. (UG 02)
