Leadership, Minor

The Leadership Minor is comprised of six courses (18crhs.) from various departments that better prepares students to advance in their professional field as leadership touches all aspects of business and industry. The Leadership Minor serves as an excellent resume builder and will impact EVERYONE’S life after graduation, while gaining an understanding and knowledge for future endeavors. Leadership is an extremely broad and ever-growing demand across businesses, organizations, teams, cultures, and our society.

The goal of the Leadership Minor is to focus on helping students gain an initial understanding of those communication and relationship processes they will face while developing their professional lives. Additionally, students will begin to evaluate themselves and their competencies through reflection and problem-solving issues that will positively impact and enhance one’s professional growth regardless of your academic major as leadership touches all aspects of life.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Apply knowledge of leadership to real leadership problems in an actual organization through a well-defined leadership project. (UO 2, 6, 7)

2. Integrate leadership concepts and practices in thinking about and acting on these problems in a particular context through the leadership project. (UO 3, 5, 8, 9, 10)

3. Practice leadership through the leadership project, following through on the project appropriately. (UO 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9)

4. Analyze leadership in a particular context and draw conclusions through a written summary report. (UO 2, 4, 6)

5. Examine leadership problems as a member of a leadership consulting team. (UO 1, 2)

6. Provide ongoing guidance to others on leadership issues as a member of a leadership consulting team. (UO 1, 2, 6)

GPA Requirement

Minor GPA: 2.0 or higher

Minor Requirements

  • Students must complete at least 6 credit hours in their minor from SRU
  • A minimum of 6 credit hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above)
  • A minor shall be no fewer than 18 credits.
  • ROTC students who wish to declare the Leadership minor should see the Military Science department for specific minor course requirements. ROTC students who declare the Leadership minor must take only the 19 credits of Military Science courses indicated.
