Demystifying Crime & Justice
Demystifying Crime & Justice Thematic Thread
The American public is fascinated by crime. Issues such as addiction, punishment, criminal minds, justice, and law are common subjects of both popular media and everyday conversation. Despite the appeal of these topics, a variety of misconceptions persist about crime, offenders, and the justice system. This thread aims to remedy those misunderstandings by challenging students’ understanding of justice, deepening their appreciation for the complexity of criminal behavior and sanctions, and analyzing the factors shaping public opinion and criminal justice policy.
