Beginning in the fall of 2019, the BFA Acting program will provide an affordable, four-year, focused, conservatory-style, 78-credit BFA Acting degree program, with two concentrations - Theatre Performance and Musical Theatre Performance. This degree program will prepare students for careers in theatre performance and musical theatre performance at a professional level as well as for a variety of professional performance jobs in the theatre and entertainment industry.
The program has two focused goals of providing students with affordable, liberal arts, BFA training in acting and producing contemporary musical theatre.
All BFA Acting students will gain a solid foundation in performance, acting skills, vocal and movement styles and practices, theatre history, directing, stage makeup, and an introduction to dance.
In the 28-credit Theatre Performance concentration, BFA students will continue to hone their skills in advanced acting techniques, dialects, and auditioning skills. They will have the opportunity to tailor their education by choosing from concentration options that allow them to gain additional training in arts administration, playwriting, voice, theatre history, dance, new play development, technical theatre, and touring theatre. This direction will allow students to gain additional, employable skills in theatre. They will also complete a Health and Fitness course to emphasize the importance of maintaining the physical self.
